Description

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine the inside of the uterus (uterine cavity) using a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope.

🔍 What is it used for?

It helps doctors diagnose various uterine conditions, such as:

Abnormal uterine bleeding

Infertility issues

Recurrent miscarriages

Uterine fibroids or polyps

Adhesions (scar tissue inside the uterus)

Congenital uterine abnormalities

⚙️ How is the procedure done?

A hysteroscope is gently inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus.

The uterus is expanded using fluid or gas to allow clear visualization.

A camera transmits images to a screen for examination.

⏱️ Duration

Usually takes 10–30 minutes

Often done as an outpatient procedure (no hospital stay required)

💉 Anesthesia

May be done without anesthesia, or with:

Local anesthesia

Mild sedation

Short general anesthesia (in some cases)
